What is Avalanche (AVAX)?

Avalanche’s main goal is to provide the same capabilities as Ethereum, but solve the main problems of low throughput and extremely high fees. Avalanche splits the three core jobs – transaction validation, exchanging money, and executing "if this, then that" logic – and operates three separate computer networks to crunch them. This allows it to process thousands of transactions per second as opposed to around 17 for Ethereum, and fees that can be thousands of times lower. The other way Avalanche attempts to replace Ethereum is by simply being compatible with it. Computer code written to build smart contracts on Ethereum can be reused on Avalanche, which has helped it gain rapid adoption.

Our take on Avalanche

We think Avalanche is up there as a strong contender in the race to one day become the dominant blockchain technology. In particular, we like that it makes moving code from Ethereum dead simple. Think about it: Most decentralized finance runs on Ethereum today, but has to deal with slow and expensive transactions. With Avalanche, the solution is only a copy-paste away. You can see the impact of this transferrability already. Avalanche's Subnets, their approach to the scaling problem of the Blockchain Trilemma, have proven to be a big attractor for many high quality projects. This is particularly the case terms of DeFi protocols and blockchain gaming.
