The Evolution of Hyundai: Pioneering in Automotive and Beyond

Founded in 1947 by Chung Ju-yung, Hyundai began as an engineering and construction company in South Korea. It wasn’t until 1967 that Hyundai Motor Company was established, expanding the group's presence into the automotive industry.

Hyundai's first car model was not an independent creation but the Ford Cortina, assembled under license in 1968. Hyundai's first self-developed car, the Pony, only rolled out in 1975, designed with the help of British company George Turnbull.

Beyond automotive, Hyundai leads in robotics. In 2020, it acquired a controlling stake in Boston Dynamics, known for advanced robots like 'Atlas' and 'Spot'. This positions Hyundai at the forefront of future mobility and logistics solutions.

Hyundai showcases environmental responsibility with its 'Blue Drive' initiative. It encompasses their vision to lead eco-friendly vehicle technology with developments like the hydrogen fuel cell-powered NEXO and the Ioniq electric vehicle series.

Hyundai operates the world's largest integrated automobile manufacturing facility in Ulsan, South Korea. This colossal plant has the capacity to produce 1.6 million units annually, covering 1,225 acres with over 34,000 employees.

In a high-altitude world record, a near-standard Hyundai Santa Fe became the first passenger vehicle to be driven across the Antarctic, traversing ice, snow, and extreme conditions to cross the continent in 2017.

Hyundai's presence extends into sports and corporate social responsibility (CSR). They've been FIFA World Cup sponsors since 2002 and support initiatives like the 'Hope On Wheels' program to fight pediatric cancer.

Hyundai also owns one of the world's largest shipyards, Hyundai Heavy Industries, producing ships the size of skyscrapers. Unbelievably, it started as a small welding shop!
