Meiji Restoration Downfall
The samurai class was abolished during the Meiji Restoration in 1868. The modernization and westernization of Japan's military led to the samurai's decline. Their privileges were stripped, and they transitioned into other roles in society.
Samurai's Cultural Legacy
Despite their military disbandment, the samurai's impact on culture persists. Modern martial arts, corporate practices, and film draw inspiration from samurai ethics and history, preserving their legacy in contemporary Japan and beyond.
